August 22nd, 2026: Forgiveness, Can You Imagine?

https://youtu.be/rX0Hdj_N-00

This worship service at First Presbyterian Church centers on the biblical story of Joseph and his reconciliation with his brothers in Genesis 45. Pastor Katie Ricks explores the deep wounds caused by betrayal, family estrangement, anger, and trauma, connecting Joseph’s story to the experiences many people carry within their own families. The sermon acknowledges that painful memories can resurface unexpectedly and emphasizes that people don’t always have to navigate those experiences alone.

At the heart of the message is the idea that forgiveness and freedom are gifts from God rather than things we can simply force ourselves to achieve. Joseph does not forget what his brothers did, but he reaches a place where he can move forward without allowing that betrayal to control his life. The service also includes music, a children’s message about dealing with anger and hurt, prayers for those experiencing illness and hardship, and a church mission project to pack school bags for children in need. The congregation closes by reflecting on God’s grace, love, peace, and hope.
