This week at First Church, we gathered in worship to reflect on the extraordinary impact of ordinary acts of kindness. Centered on Matthew 10:40–42, we were reminded that Jesus calls us to welcome others with the same love and grace that God has shown us. Through music, prayer, and Scripture, we celebrated how even the smallest gestures—a smile, an open door, a listening ear, or a simple cup of cold water—can become holy acts that reveal Christ’s presence in our everyday lives.
Our guest preacher shared stories from recent travels and reflected on how easy it is to overlook the people closest to us or become impatient with those who challenge us. The message encouraged us to look beyond first impressions and remember that everyone carries unseen burdens. Rather than striving for perfection or trying to “fix” every relationship, we were invited to begin with small, intentional acts of compassion that can transform both our hearts and the lives of those around us. As followers of Christ, we are continually being shaped through simple, faithful practices of love.
During the service, we also celebrated the generosity of our congregation and the impact of our mission outreach. Thanks to your support, recent bake sales raised funds for the Buddy Bag Program, helping provide weekend meals for local children. In our prayers, we lifted up those affected by violence, natural disasters, extreme heat, illness, and division throughout the world, while also giving thanks for the resilience of our communities and the importance of extending Christ’s welcome to all people. As we were sent into the week, we carried Jesus’ reminder that even the smallest act of kindness can become a powerful witness to God’s love.
