June 27th, 2026: Responding, Relying, and Restoring

This week at First Church, we gathered in worship to celebrate God’s call to serve together as a community of faith. The service began with gratitude for the many ways our congregation has been active in the community through recent events, including Pride and Juneteenth celebrations, where we shared a visible witness of Christ’s love, welcome, and justice. We reflected on the importance of building relationships across differences and continuing the work of creating a world where all people are valued, respected, and loved as children of God.

Drawing from Matthew 9:35–10:8, the sermon explored Jesus sending out the disciples to share in the work of ministry. We were reminded that God never intended for us to carry the burdens of faith and service alone. Too often, we fall into the traps of believing “I need to fix it,” “I can do it all by myself,” or “It’s all my responsibility.” Yet Jesus calls us into a different way of living—one rooted in community, compassion, and trust. Ministry is not about having all the answers or solving every problem; it is about showing up, building relationships, and sharing God’s love with those who are hurting.

As we prayed together, we lifted up those facing illness, loneliness, grief, uncertainty, and violence throughout the world. We gave thanks for God’s presence that strengthens and sustains us, and we were reminded that the work of healing and restoration belongs ultimately to God. As the service concluded, we were sent into the world with a renewed sense of purpose, carrying the light of Christ together and trusting that God equips us with companions, gifts, and grace for the journey ahead.
